BIOMAC s.r.o. was established in 2000. The founder of the company, Ing. Zdeněk Černý, has however been engaged in the biomass-to-fuel transformation industry since 1990. “It was then that we could see the first wood briquette, imported from Sweden, and immediately started designing our own briquetting technology”, Mr Černý explains.

The company now

Currently the company has two business lines. The first line includes the design, supply and service of briquetting and pelletizing technologies to transform biomass into standardised ecological fuels. The incoming material for the technology is wet and very voluminous wood biomass, which is crushed on a crushing line, dried to provide the desired calorific value, compressed into a small volume and packaged for sale. BIOMAC staff has built 51 production facilities since 1992, each with a staff of 6-12 employees (depending on the working shift system) producing up to a truckful (approximately 24 tons) of ecological fuel daily. The total yearly production capacity of all BIOMAC machines together is over 130,000 tons of compacted biomass.

The other company business line includes manufacture or purchase and subsequent resale of ecological fuels from biomass, manufactured on the BIOMAC technology. Ecological fuels include primarily wood briquettes and pellets, tree bark briquettes, energy-producing wood chips, firewood, kindling chips, BBQ briquettes and BBQ wood-coal.

Initially we intended to put all the ecological fuels on the domestic market with a view to replacing high-sulphur coal in the stoves and boilers of Czech villages. However, the policy of the previous Czech governments supporting the use of coal and oil rather than ecological fuels soon forced this company to export 95% of the Czech produce to neighbouring more environmentally friendly countries, where fuels from biomass have a reasonably long tradition. Owing to the standardised quality of the fuels and the targeted business strategy, BIOMAC has become a direct supplier of fuel from biomass to the Austrian, Italian, German, Danish and Belgian markets. Thanks to its pro-exporting policy, the company was third in the “DHL Export Award” competition in 2006 and was the “Most successful Czech Trade client 2006”. Apart from the company's own production, BIOMAC buys and exports products of other Czech and Slovak fuel producers from biomass.

The company has set itself a long-term goal to return ecological fuels back to the Czech market so as to slowly replace the high-sulphur coal with clean ecological fuel in Czech towns and villages.

To this end, BIOMAC has been building an extensive network of stores currently encompassing 48 sites across the Czech Republic and another 23 sites in Slovakia. And another 7-10 stores will be opened in 2018-2019.

After opening its new plants in 2019, BIOMAC will become the largest Czech producer of ENplus A1 certified pellets. By expanding our group with the inclusion of Enviterm, a company based in Ždírec nad Doubravou, in August 2018, we increased our production by another 20 thousand tons of pellets annually. And we plan to increase our production volume by another 30 thousand tons of pellets and 15 thousand tons of briquettes in 2019. This volume will be sold in the Czech market.
